Sunday School

9:15-10:15 on Sunday Mornings

On Sunday mornings from 9:15 until 10:15, the youth gather in their space on the third floor for Christian formation for Sunday School. Led by our dedicated adult volunteers, this time is a chance for 7th-12th graders to check in with each other, deepen their relationship with God and the Church, and spend time learning about the Christian faith.

This year in Sunday School, we are using the curriculum “Making it Real and Relevant”. “Making it Real and Relevant” is a lectionary based youth ministry program that uses contemporary, movies, and videos to connect faith formation with daily life. It provides lessons that are aligned with Revised Common Lectionary with the goal of addressing the characteristics of spiritual development of youth. (Examples of movies that will be used: The Matrix, Monty Python and the Search For the Holy Grail, Star Wars, National Treasure.)

These goals are to:

  • learn that one has a life-purpose and that it is possible to discern what it is
  • to seek connection with the inner self (spirit, as opposed to the outer self, the ego)
  • to see connection with God and with the world around one, both natural and human
  • to experience transcendence (meaning seeing how one fits into the bigger picture)
