Blessing of the Animals

St. John’s Episcopal Church- Blessing of the Animals event
St. John’s Episcopal Church in Montgomery, AL will host its annual “Blessing of the Animals” event on Sunday, October 1 at 5:00 pm. We celebrate St. Francis of Assisi on the first Sunday of October.  St. Francis is associated with patronage of animals and the environment. It has become customary for churches to hold ceremonies blessing animals on a day close to his feast day in early October.
Everyone is asked to bring towels (new or used), newspaper and/or wet dog and cat food. All of these donations will go directly to our local Humane Shelter. No animal is too big or small. We simply ask that they be in a crate or on a leash. The Montgomery Zoo will be here with several of their animals. We will also have a petting zoo from Choctafaula in Auburn, AL.
This is an outdoor service, which will take place in our Labyrinth. Each pet will receive a special blessing from one of our priests.
Directly following the outdoor service, we invite everyone to stay for dinner. “The Rosemary Bistro” food truck will be here, and it will be a great time for us to gather as a community.
We are located at 113 Madison Avenue Montgomery, AL 36104.
