St. John’s Church is proud of our many offerings for the children in our parish. From Sunday morning programming to Vacation Bible School, your child is sure to form friendships while learning about Christ.
Vacation Bible School
Children in grades Rising Pre-K4 through Rising 6th are invited to participate in our yearly Vacation Bible School.
This year our VBS is titled “Twists & Turns”, and it is scheduled for Monday, June 5- Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 8:30 am- noon.
Children's Sunday Morning Programming
Our Sunday School program is called Christian Formation. Formation indicates that our learning is a life-long process. Classes are from 9:15-10:15 a.m. each Sunday. Each classroom is designed to be a safe and nurturing environment. To register your children, please contact Sarah Collier at 262-1937 or by email at email@example.com.
Children’s Chapel is offered during the 10:30 a.m. service. Our school-age children (Pre-K4-5th grade) leave “big” church after the 2nd reading and follow the cross to the Children’s Chapel on the 2nd floor of the Educational Building. This room is set up to be a sacred space and our time is spent around a prayer table, which is covered with a colored cloth to represent the liturgical seasons. Children are picked to set the prayer table with various items available. We discuss the liturgical season and color, offer a simplified morning prayer service of songs, prayer, scripture readings, and children’s discussion. Children re-join their parents in the worship service during the Peace.
Nursery & Childcare
We have trained, hired nursery workers at both Sunday services for preschoolers and children under 2 years of age. We also provide nursery care at Wednesday night services and other special services. Childcare workers are in the classrooms for our 2 1/2 year olds, 4’s and 5’s. They are in the classrooms before, during and after the Christian Formation Time on Sunday mornings.
Our 5th-6th graders meet once per month for CLUB 56. This prepares them for EYC, and it builds their relationships with one another. Each month they have dinner and participate in fun activities such as bowling, swimming, lazer tag, go kart racing, miniature golf etc.
Children & Eucharist
Many parents have questions about children participating in Communion. St. John’s Church has prepared a list of responses to these common questions. Read more about Children & the Eucharist HERE
2023 Lenten Wednesday Night Children's Series
Countdown to Easter
During each of our speaker’s presentations (6:30-7:30 pm), our children’s series, Countdown to Easter, will be held in the Children’s Chapel. So much happened during the last week of Jesus’ life, as he prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for us. This series is designed to show the events leading up to and including Jesus’ death on the cross- where he made a way for us. Each week, the children will participate in exciting skits, object lessons, crafts, games and much more. Children of all ages (K-6th grade) are welcome to join in on the fun! Toddlers through Pre-K will have a modified program in the Run-Around-Room.
