Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. With humility, joy and enthusiasm I am honored to accept the call as your next rector. The search process has been filled with the presence of the Spirit, God’s love and the faithful leadership of both the Vestry and Search Committee. Sarah, Poppy, Ann Townsend and I cannot wait to join you in early September.
St. John’s has a rich history, and I believe, a future without limits as God calls us to walk together. The palpable presence of God in our conversations with various members of St. John’s revealed the warmth of this beloved community. During my visit to Montgomery, I spent time in the Nave and the Chapel, and discovered what the Celts called a “thin place,” a sacred place in which the separation between heaven and earth, between the temporal and the divine is nearly indistinguishable. In those spaces at St. John’s, there is beauty already present in your memories, and I am confident, there is beauty waiting to be discovered in this new chapter of our lives.
We look forward to seeing you soon, and finding ways to get to know each other. As we all experience transitions together in the next few weeks, may we be filled with joy: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17).
