- Why St. John’s
- Mission & Outreach
On Wednesdays during Lent, St. John’s will host a speaker during the noon service followed by lunch prepared by area Episcopal churches ($7 per person).
Wednesday, February 17th, the preacher is The Right Reverend Andrew Waldo, Bishop of Upper South Carolina.
The Right Reverend W. Andrew Waldo was elected in 2009 as the Eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Upper South Carolina. Bishop Waldo is a founding member of the South Carolina Bishops Public Education Initia-tive. This initiative actively seeks to connect con-gregations with public schools for mentoring and more. Bishop Waldo is also known for his support of the work in Haiti. Bishop Waldo has paved a way forward in the diocese with his work on recon-ciliation around difficult issues in the church. His self-proclaimed “radical centrist” position on issues of controversy and his encouragement of dialogue helped form a diocese that treasures our unity in Christ. Bishop Waldo is the son of the Rev. Mark E. Waldo, Sr. and Anne Waldo and grew up at Church of the Ascension in Montgomery. He main-tains an active interest in this his hometown and, as a model railroader, is working on a replica of downtown Montgomery as it was between 1947-1954.
