Noonday Prayers and Sermon by Lenten speaker in the church

Every Wednesday during Lent, various priests from parishes and dioceses across the south will come to St. John’s.  They will preach at the noonday service and at 6:30pm that night, they will teach on a topic of their choice.  A meal is offered after the noonday service (there is a charge).  It is prepared each week by various Montgomery Episcopal parishes and various St. John’s ECW guilds.

A meal is also offered at 6pm, before the teaching begins at 6:30pm.

There is a separate teaching offered for children and youth of the parish on Wednesday nigths as well.

Children ages K-6 will have a series called “Keeping the fizz in your faith” & the youth of the parish will hang out with Caitlin in the EYC room, keeping it real & relevant.

The speaker for March 19 is:

Lee ShaferThe Rev. Dr. Lee F. Shafer serves as the Rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Anniston. Prior to coming to Anniston, Lee was at St. John’s in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born in Alabama and graduated from Birmingham-Southern. From there she took a 20 year tour of the southeast, living not only in Florida but also Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia where she worked as a social worker and raised her two children, Trey Bauer and Holly Bauer. Lee received her Masters of Sacred Theology in 2003 from Nashotah House in Wisconsin and her Doctor of Ministry from Sewanee in 2012.  She and her husband, Tom, spend most of their time with their two dogs and three cats in Anniston but love getting away to their cabin in Sewanee when they can.
