War and Christian Ethics
Led by The Rev. Dr. Deonna Neal

Dinner at 6pm, Teaching from 6:30pm-7:30pm

This four-part lecture series will consider some issues surrounding war from a Christian ethics perspective.  The titles of the four lecture series are listed below:

Lecture 1 (Sep 26):  Christianity and the Just War Tradition: An Overview
Lecture 2 (Oct 3) :   21st Century Military Technologies:  A Christian Ethics Perspective
Lecture 3 (Oct 10):  Nationalism and the Christian Conscience:  Some Considerations
Lecture 4 (Oct 17):  The Grief and Costs of War:  Moral Injury and Healing

Some key questions that will be addressed are:  How can war be undertaken in accordance with the Gospel mandate to love and serve the neighbor?  How do cyberwarfare, autonomous weapons, and human enhancement impact the ethics of warfighting? On what moral grounds might a Christian resign from military service?  What spiritual and sacramental resources are available to help Christian service members heal from the tragedy of war?
