Inspiring Hope – by Christy Anderson

We began working with Hope Inspired Ministries (HIM) under the guidance of Daniel Strandlund by providing lunch and mentors. We are currently looking for more people who would like to give of their talents in one of my favorite ways—through food. Currently, a small group of St. John’s parishioners provides a home-cooked lunch for about 30 students, staff and mentors at HIM 6-8 times a year.   The team is responsible for a main dish, sides, dessert, and drinks on a voluntary basis as schedules allow. The church kitchen is available for use and expenses are reimbursable (thank you Duncan!). Our next lunch opportunity is October 16, 2024.  If you are interested in participating, or just have questions about volunteering in the future, please contact Christy Anderson, 334-669-0980 or ckdexterhaven72@yahoo.com. If cooking isn’t part of your love language, perhaps mentoring is? HIM also needs mentors to meet with students once a week for 5 weeks each session. It can be a one-off or multiple class cycles as your schedule allows. I hope you’ll consider joining us in our effort to strengthen the relationship we have with HIM!

The vision of Hope Inspired Ministries is to help individuals break the grip of poverty. Through generous donations of time and money, they serve unemployed individuals by preparing and equipping them to obtain, maintain, and excel at employment.

HIM was founded in Montgomery in 2012 and was so successful that Birmingham and Lowndes County replicated their model to create two more community sites for the program.
