Full-Time Associate Rector, Montgomery, Alabama

St John’s Episcopal Church is a healthy, growing, and historic downtown parish, in the state capital of Alabama.  It is renowned for its strong ministries of outreach, preaching, and music and its engaging, central liturgical tradition.

The Rector and Vestry have an outward-looking, evangelistic vision, particularly as we seek to engage with young adults and their families.  St. John’s is renowned for providing newly-ordained clergy with solid and holistic ministerial formation, and this position would be especially valuable for someone near the start of their ordained life.

Ministerial Gifts Required

  1. A gifted discipler and evangelist of children, teenagers, and young adults.
  2. A visionary leader of ministry to families.
  3. A creative liturgist and preacher, especially in intergenerational worship.
  4. A gifted leader of lay ministers, with the ability to motivate and to build teams.

Personal Qualities Required

  1. Vibrant and attractive spirituality.
  2. Commitment to growth in prayerful self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
  3. Commitment to collegiality and collaborative ministry.
  4. Enthusiasm, vision, and imagination.
  5. Strong skills in personal interaction, especially with young adults, teenagers, and children.
  6. Familiarity with youth and young adult cultures.
  7. Confidence in personal convictions, but sensitivity to those of others.
  8. Respect for all integrities within Anglicanism.
  9. Competent in digital platforms, including social media.

Remuneration and conditions of work

  • This is a full-time position, to start as soon as is feasible.
  • The compensation package fully meets the Diocesan standards, including salary, benefits, and vacation.
  • The Associate Rector will enjoy a personal office, administrative support, and a professional allowance.
