On November 13, 2024, St. John’s will be launching a prayer bead ministry with an introductory “Beads & Barbeque Lunch” in the Parish Hall.
As part of the Prayer Bead Ministry, participants will craft strands of beads under the direction of Ms. Kimberly Winston, author of Bead One, Pray Too. According to Ms. Winston, this kind of contemplative prayer is an ancient practice. A signed copy of Ms. Winston’s book will be given away at the first lunch. These beads can then be taken to homebound and hospitalized parishioners, or others as desired.
At the introductory luncheon, directions for Anglican/Episcopal prayer beads will be followed by a question and answer session about the beads as well as the place of contemplative prayer in the Christian tradition.
On December 11, 2024 we will have a bead making and contemplative prayer training session where we will make prayer beads and practice contemplative prayer.
After that, we will have quarterly Beads and Barbeque lunches.
