Christians are a storytelling people. The gospel spread by Jesus’ first companions relating the events of the life, death, and resurrection of this man from Nazareth to those who had not witnessed it in person—in other words, they told the story. Furthermore, the story of Jesus of Nazareth continues the story of God’s creating the world, choosing Abraham and his descendants, and leading his chosen people into the Promised Land. This fall, we at St. John’s are going to continue telling this story. Each Wednesday of our fall series, we will do three things: read a story from the bible, reflect on the kind of world it is in which things like that happen, and tell stories from our own lives to each other that ‘rhyme’ with our story from scripture. Our young adults’ narrative reflection group uses a similar method each month. Don’t worry: there’s no public speaking or testifying in front of everyone involved! Story Corps will run from Wednesday, September 28th until October 19th. (October 26th will be our Halloween carnival!)
