After 41 years on the organ bench sharing in the musical life of more than a few congregations - and most meaningfully to me, St John’s Church--I am stepping away for a time of sabbatical rest. I wanted to share a few thoughts with you as I begin this new season.
Making music at St. John’s is one of the chief joys of my life. I am privileged and humbled to worship with you--whether through the joy of prelude music, the triumph of a hymn, or working with our vocalists to lift voices in psalms and anthems. Your voices, your faith, your warmth, your joys, and your strength in sorrow have made this ministry a true blessing to me and taught me more than you know. Your spirits have ministered to me.
This sabbatical is an opportunity for renewal. I look forward to exploring new music, studying with fresh curiosity, and taking time to reflect on how God is continuing to shape my calling as well as our music together. I hope to return not only rested, but inspired—with new ideas, deeper skills, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Thank you for offering me the space to step back, breathe, and listen. I am deeply grateful for your support, your kindness, and your understanding. I will miss worshiping with you in the weeks ahead, but I trust that this time apart will enrich my service when I return.
May God continue to guide and bless St John’s—and may we all find moments of rest and renewal along the way.
