St. John’s offers a wide variety of opportunities for adults. There are Sunday morning classes, Wednesday night events, young adult events, a men’s breakfast cooking group, and more. There is also a wide range of volunteer and ministry opportunities throughout the church to suit every age group and skill set.

Adult Groups

Sunday Breakfast

The best and cheapest breakfast in town! A full breakfast is served between the early service and the 10:30 a.m. service  every Sunday. Chefs welcome. $5 for adults, $2 for children.

Heavenly Hosts

On the second Tuesday of each month, adults of St. John’s meet in various parishioners’ homes for a covered dish supper. Bring a dish to share and enjoy the company of other St. John-ians!  Beverages of all types are provided.

Young Adults

St. John’s Young Adults’ group is open to all members and friends of St. John’s parish who are in their 20s and 30s (or whose spouses are in their 20s and 30s). Our regular attendees range in age from 20 to just-turned-40, and we have anywhere from a dozen to over 20 folks at each supper club gathering. We’re a mix of singles, married people, and married people with children. Our Supper Club gathers  once a month for dinner and fellowship at the home of one of our young adult households. Food themes vary each month, as well. For more information, email sarah@stjohnsmontgomery.org.

Men's Focus

Men’s Focus is a forum for learning, growth, and comradeship. The main element of Men’s Focus will be a monthly Saturday morning breakfast at the church, from 8 – 9 a.m. catered by Chappy’s. These breakfasts will feature a speaker on a topic of importance and interest to men, and there will be room for discussion, as well as eating.

If you feel like you would benefit from having an exclusively male forum where you can focus on spiritual, social, and relational growth, then Men’s Focus is for you. For more information, email duncan@stjohnsmontgomery.org.

Sunday School

Sunday school for all ages is offered from 9:15 -10:15 a.m. every Sunday.

ECW

The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of St. John’s seeks to unite the women of St. John’s through programs of worship, study, and service which deepen and strengthen their spiritual lives and lead them into Christian service in the parish and the community.

The ECW has many projects and programs which enhance the life of the parish as well as the greater community, presenting opportunities for participation and fellowship such as Archives, St. John’s Bazaar and Luncheon, Flower Guild, Reception Committee, Pastoral Care, and more. General meetings, guild meetings, projects and items of interest are announced in the email newsletter.

Daughters of the King

The Daughters of the King is an international Episcopal order for women who take a simple vow of prayer and service. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the vision as Daughters of the King is to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others, and to become reflections of God’s love throughout the world. The group, which meets monthly, engages in spoken prayer, quiet prayer and Bible study.  All women interested in becoming members are welcomed.

Cursillo

Cursillo is a Spanish word meaning “short course.” In the Episcopal Church the word is used to describe a weekend retreat led by clergy and laity several times a year at Camp McDowell. The weekend provides a wonderful opportunity to “get away from it all” and experience foundational Christian teaching, warm Christian fellowship and relaxed worship in a very comfortable atmosphere. The event begins with the weekend itself, and emphasis is placed on continuing the spirituality through weekly Reunion Groups and monthly gatherings called Ultreyas. Click here for a link to the Alabama diocesan Cursillo page.
