Building the Future through Planned Giving

The St. John’s 1834 Society is designed to recognize those generous individuals who have let    St. John’s know that they have remembered the church in their planned giving.

What is Planned Giving? Also known as Legacy Giving, it involves donating to an organization through your will or trust. This allows you to support a cause you care about throughout your life and even after your death.

Why should I include St. John’s in my Planned Giving? St. John’s has been entrusted to us.

We celebrate an amazing heritage here, dating back nearly two centuries. When St. John’s receives funds from planned giving, more money goes to mission, ministry, and care in our community.

We’d like to invite you to help build future generations by joining those who are investing in the future of the Church through St. John’s 1834 Society.

If you have already remembered St. John’s in your estate plan, please let us know. We want to recognize and thank you!

If you’d like more information on planned giving options or other end of life issues, please fill out the interest form below. You can also call 334-262-1937 or email churchoffice@stjohnsmontgomeryorg.

St. John's has a special fund devoted solely to the upkeep and preservation of our historic church worship spaces, campus and facilities. It is funded through direct monetary donations to the fund as well as through legacy gifts such as bequests in wills and trusts. Giving to the 1834 Society is a lovely and faithful way to continue the legacy of St. John's as a beacon of hope to future generations.
The 1834 Society fund is separately managed from the St. John's endowment. St. John's established the 1834 Society to provide for the capital needs of a church campus nearing its 200 year anniversary. Monetary gifts are welcome, but the expected usual means for contribute to the 1834 Society is through estate planning, specifically, wills and trusts. Gifts and bequests to the 1834 Society fund are charitable contributions subject to the exemptions in the tax code.
If you wish to contribute to the 1834 Society fund, please contact the St. John's Rector or any member of the 1834 Society Board (listed below). They will help you become part of the 1834 Society. We recognize our Society members in a variety of ways, including a challenge coin and an annual dinner.
If you elect to make a bequest, we encourage you to confer with your regular wills and trusts lawyer because every will has its own particular tax and personal issues. If you do not have such a regular wills and trusts lawyer, we encourage you to contact 1834 Society Board Member Anne Elizabeth McGowin, founder and owner of Senior Care Solutions (334-758-9400).  However, any of our Board Members would be delighted to help you make a gift and join the 1834 Society. We do not offer tax advice, but we can be useful in helping you find your way to legal counsel for you to consider engaging to make a gift or bequest to the 1834 Society fund.
Below are our Board members:
The Rev. Dr. Duncan Johnston
Anne Elizabeth McGowin
Will Hill Tankersley
Judge Richard D. ("Rich") Anderson
Dr. Paul B. Moore

Please give prayerful consideration to giving to  the 1834 Society fund.
