Thirteen years ago, I started my position as Director of Children’s Christian Formation at St. John’s. I still remember the overwhelming joy that I felt taking on this new journey at my home church. Home is what St. John’s has been for most of my adult life.

My husband Sam and I were married here in June 2007 (when I was only 22 and he was 26), and we have been active members ever since. Our three children (Samuel, John David and Alex) have grown up here, and St. John’s has had such an impact on their spiritual formation and journey. This job that I have had at my “home” church has been so much more that just a job. I have grown to love all the wonderful children, families and staff. The connections and friendships that I have made over these last 13 years will forever be a part of me.

However, life is ever changing, and new journeys are arising. After much prayer and guidance, I have decided that it is time for a new adventure. I will be moving on to work for my family’s business directly following Vacation Bible School in June. This new path is quite bittersweet, but I look forward to all that awaits.

Before I transition from my role at St. John’s, I pray that each member will take the time to focus on the children. They have taught me so many lessons about being a Christian, and their love is so pure. I pray that their laughter and voices will continue to fill the pews of our church, and I hope that you feel inspired to volunteer in our program.

Finally, I would like to share a portion of a poem by Robert Frost, called “Reluctance.”

“Ah, when to the heart of man

was it ever less than treason

To go with the drift of things,

To yield with a grace to reason,

And bow and accept the end

of a love or a season?”
