Can it really be six whole months since Mawande Mzongwana was ordained a transitional deacon and began her vibrant ministry at St John’s? During these six months we have come to enjoy her lively spirit, deep faith, and compassionate heart. We’ve seen God in her joy, her gifts, and her energy. She has touched our lives and we have grown in our love for her, Sihle, Thandie, and Kanya.
Sadly Mawande’s term at St John’s has come to an end. Her time here has been very fruitful and has been crucial in her early development as a clergyperson. Now, however, Bishop Glenda has decided to enrich Mawande’s formation further by deploying her at Grace Episcopal Church in Pike Road where she will serve with the Rev. Sarah Halloran. You may already know that every deacon is under the direct authority of their bishop, and not their rector. So, bishops are free to locate deacons in ways they believe will be helpful to the deacons’ growth and development and in the wider strategic interests of their dioceses.
We will miss Mawande and her family very much. And yet, we understand that our loss is gain for our friends at Grace. We give thanks to God for Mawande’s ministry and pray for God’s blessing as she moves on to the next exciting chapter in her life.
