Our Sunday School program is called Christian Formation. Formation indicates that our learning is a life-long process. Classes are from 9:15-10:10 a.m. each Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9:15 am and ends at 10:10 am.
Children’s Chapel is offered during the 10:30 a.m. service. Our school-age children (Pre-K4-5th grade) leave “big” church after the 2nd reading and follow the cross to the Children’s Chapel on the 2nd floor of the Educational Building. This room is set up to be a sacred space and our time is spent around a prayer table, which is covered with a colored cloth to represent the liturgical seasons. Children are picked to set the prayer table with various items available. We discuss the liturgical season and color, offer a simplified morning prayer service of songs, prayer, scripture readings, and children’s discussion. Children re-join their parents in the worship service during the Peace.
We have trained, hired nursery workers at both Sunday services for preschoolers and children under 2 years of age. We also provide nursery care at Wednesday night services and other special services. Childcare workers are in the classrooms for our 2 1/2 year olds, 4s and 5s. They are in the classrooms before, during and after the Christian Formation Time on Sunday mornings.
Our 5th and 6th graders meet once per month for CLUB 56. This prepares them for EYC, and it builds their relationships with one another. Each month they have dinner and participate in fun activities such as bowling, swimming, lazer tag, go kart racing, miniature golf etc.

We are so excited to announce our new Soft Sensory Service! For those who are overwhelmed by loud noises and big crowds and spaces, this may be just the peaceful space that you need. This will be a more intimate gathering at 10:30 a.m. Sundays in the Library with lower lighting and volume to keep everyone at ease. For more information, email constance@stjohnsmontgomery.org.
